This wine shows complete harmony between color, aroma, flavor and taste. Utilizing Paul Hobbs’s best 31 Oak Barrels selection of Malbec; which is characterized by an intense red with notes of violets and plums, with sweet tannins. The Malbec is combined with a touch of the winery’s best Cabernet Sauvignon in order to ensure consistency. Ripe, juicy raspberry fruit, with lovely boysenberry and plenty of vanilla, spice and chocolate shavings, come through on both the nose and palate. Magdalena is an elegant Argentine red blend.

James Suckling (94 Points):
"Blackberries and blueberries with lots of coffee and lightly toasted oak. Opulent aromas to say the least. Full-bodied with round tannins and a juicy finish. 60% malbec, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 10% syrah. Give this three or four years to come around. Try after 2024.”

Wine Enthusiast (94 Points & Editor's Choice):
"This wine's elegance and balance were a pleasant surprise, given the warm vintage. The nose starts with chocolate-wrapped berries and dates. Smooth on the palate, this savory blend is made with 60% Malbec, 30% Cabernet and 10% Syrah. It has plenty of red- and black-fruit flavors followed by dates, cumin, thyme and integrated notes of baking spices. Good acidity elevates the experience.”

Decanter (90 Points & Silver Medal – 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards):
“Alluring dark berry and wild, sweet spice aromas; toasty oak and smooth tannins on the palate.”

High above the Maipu district of Mendoza lies Pascual Toso and its storied Las Barrancas vineyard. It was founded in 1890, making it one of the oldest wineries in Argentina, in one of its best wine producing regions. As a Piemontese immigrant, Pascual saw the potential of Mendoza as a world-class winemaking region, and the winery has always stayed faithful to its principles: Tradition. Authenticity. Innovation.

The surrounding Las Barrancas vineyard is characterized by 1,000 acres of stony soils that sits 2,500 feet above sea level. Pascual Toso’s terroir-driven profile produces wines of complexity and richness, including the Alta Malbec sourced from 60-year-old vines.

Paul Hobbs, a revered giant in the industry, who consults and makes wine for his own American labels as well as Argentine ones, is the consulting winemaker to Pascual Toso. His reputation coupled with his expertise in wine and in Argentina make him an ideal partner for the Pascual Toso label.
