This Barolo is garnet-red in color, with fine aromas of chocolate, toast and spice from its aging in wood. It has great structure and big tannins.

The Somm Journal (96 Points):
"A formidable, polished red, that offers cherries drenched in cinnamon and sweet tobacco. Rose petals
smolder in dusty cocoa tannins, tangled with a juicy finish."

VinePair (94 Points):
“If you want to try an aged Barolo but aren't sure if you can afford it, look no further than Bel Colle. The
name, which translates to beautiful hill, is a reference to the stunning vineyards in Barolo's Verduno region
that the Nebbiolo grapes for this wine are sourced from. Winery director Luca Bosio and Mario Albrito
coax the wine into an expressive, age-worthy expression. It has beautiful aromas of rose petals and
leather with hints of ripe cranberries and earth. The palate is expertly balanced with well-integrated
tannins and elegant fruit supported by an even acidity. This wine has seen over a decade of aging and is a
wonderful representation of the joy that can be found in a bottle of Barolo. And for just over 60 dollars,
it's a must-buy."

Wine Enthusiast (93 Points):
“Aromas of rose petal, leather and black-skinned berry emerge from the glass. The polished, balanced
palate offers Morello cherry, licorice and a balsamic note alongside fine-grained tannins. Drink through
2033.”

This notable winery came to be by three brothers in 1977, who established Bel Colle in Verduno, on the northwest edge of the Barolo DOCG. It was purchased in 2015 by Luca Bosio, an innovative young winemaker in Piedmont representing the third generation of his winemaking family. Luca seized the opportunity to work with such a prestigious property, which is known for producing single vineyard Barolo and Barbersco wines noted for their delicate, elegant, spicy and floral character.

Examples of outstanding single vineyard wines include the Barolo Monvigliero DOCG, which is grown in one of the best areas of Verduno with an average vine age of 50-years-old, producing a harmonious and complex wine. The Barbaresco Pajorè comes from a highly recognized 2.5 acre, south-facing single vineyard in the village of Barbaresco, creating a delicate, elegant wine.

It is widely known that Italy is home to the most indigenous varieties of grapes in the world. Bel Colle Winery honors that heritage and includes a separate, small vineyard planted to Pelaverga, a variety that is nearly extinct. The winery does indeed make a highly coveted wine from it, but in miniscule quantities.
