Vibrant and well-built, this wine has power to match the cherry, leather, and earth aromas and flavors. This Cru wine shows a pretty mineral character that lifts above the bright red fruit. That special aromatic signature is followed by dark fruit and balsam herb, firm tannins and bright acidity.

Wine Advocate (94 Points):

"…reveals dense and rich fiber that wraps thickly but smoothly over the palate. This wine is woven tightly with soft layers of black fruit, plum, spice, tar and licorice. It is important to underline the difference between the more compact and vertical La Mannella against this more generous and broad-based wine…”

James Suckling (93 Points):

"Juicy red with blood-orange, hazelnut, chocolate and spice character. Sour cherry, too. It's medium-bodied
and in-check with dusty tannins and a flavorful finish. Fine and focused. Drink or hold“

Wine Enthusiast (90 Points):

“…The robust palate features dried cherry, steeped prune, coffee and licorice framed in grainy tannins that leave an extremely drying finish. Despite the assertive tannins, drink sooner rather than later to capture the remaining fruit richness.”

Wine Spectator (90 Points):

"An elegant style, boasting strawberry, cherry, floral, mineral and herb aromas and flavors. Firms up with the compact tannins providing grip on the finish, yet this red is also long. Best from 2025 through 2040."

Brunello di Montalcino of Tuscany has been called “The King of Wines” and this “king” is what Cortonesi specializes in. The Cortonesis established La Mannella in the ‘70s, covering 138 acres in one of the most storied areas of the entire region of Montalcino, but only 19 of those acres are dedicated to producing a world-class Brunello. They started commercially selling their wine in 1985. And today, the wines are in the more-than-capable hands of Tommaso Cortonesi, a third-generation winemaker.

The first vintage of Cortonesi’s Brunello came in 1990, which took advantage of the rocky, well-drained soils of the vineyard site, ensuring a long-aging wine. Modern technological advances, too, go a long way in producing outstanding wine.

Part of the Cortonesi portfolio, the Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggiarelli comes from a Grand Cru single vineyard of a little less than 5 acres located on the south-eastern side of Montalcino. This vibrant, powerful wine has a core of minerality that lifts the bright red fruit notes. That special aromatic signature is followed by dark fruit and balsam herb, firm tannins and fresh acidity.
